Winona Ryder was born October 29th, 1971 in Olmsted County, Minnesota. She is an actress twice nominated for Academy Awards, once for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for The Age of Innocence (1993)—for which she did win the Golden Globe in 1994— and a 2nd Academy award nomination for Best Actress in Little Women (1994). Ryder was a successful film actress immediately. Her debut as a teenage girl with a crush on the lead character in Lucas of 1986, played by Corey Haim, gained so much notice from critics that soon nearly every juicy role for teens came her way. She usually chose quirkier, darker movies. She was the Gothic teen who befriends the ghosts in her familys haunted house in Tim Burtons Beetlejuice (1988). Then she starred in the cult classic hit dark comedy Heathers (1989) with Christian Slater. She played the infamous 13 year old cousin/wife of Jerry Lee Lewis in Great Balls of Fire! (1989). A List status came around the time of the Tim Burton hit Edward Scissorhands (1990) co-starring then boyfriend Johnny Depp. She had enough clout by 1999 to star and produce the movie Girl, Interrupted. Headlines Career, Interrupted were inevitable when Ryder was humiliated by a shoplifting conviction in 2001. Her career plummeted for a time but now Ryder is filming or in post-production on 5 major projects slated for 2008 and 2009 release dates.
