Whitney Houston was born August 9th, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey. Houston is one of the highest selling, most iconic R & B/ Pop singers in history referred to as The Voice. The Guiness Book of World Records lists her as the Most Awarded Female Artist of All Time which includes 6 Grammys. Whether nature or nurture makes an All Time Great, Houston has it covered. Her mother was Cissy Houston, her cousin 5 time Grammy winner Dionne Warwick, and her godmother is THE Godmother, Aretha Franklin. Houstons own self-titled debut album of 1985 sold 25 million records and stayed #1 on Billboards Chart for 14 weeks including 3 #1 hit singles. The follow up album called Whitney had 4 more #1 hits bringing Houstons consecutive # 1 hits to 7—her first World Record. Houstons 4th album, the soundtrack for the Bodyguard (1992) was the peak of her sales and artistry including songs like I Will Always Love You. That album went Platinum 17 times and sold 42 million records. Altogether, Houston has 9 studio albums, 4 compilation albums and 12 #1 hit singles. She starred in movies like the Bodyguard and Waiting to Exhale (1995). Her well publicized fall from grace, hiatus from acting and recording and apparent drug addiction has coincided with her marriage to singer Bobby Brown. But recently, Houstons decisions to divorce, attend 2 rehabilitation centers, and re-team with hit maker Clive Davis and Arista records has fans hoping a comeback is in the offing. Houston has one daughter.
