Valeria Marini was born May, 1967 in Rome, Italy and grew up in a smaller city called Cagliari. Marini can be called a lot of things—a fashion designer, actress, and showgirl among them. What she is considered in Italy is a throwback to the MAGGIORATA, or lush sex symbols first given a name in Italy in the 1950s starting with Gina Lollobrigida (for whom the term was first used) and quickly including Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield and made iconic by the most famous scene from the 1960 Fellini movie La Dolce Vita. An unattainable, busty blonde American actress played by Swedens Anita Ekberg cavorts with abandon in the Trevi fountain in an evening gown. Marinis blonde hair, statuesque, larger than life figure and personality made her and a few similar women in Italy in the late 1990s into neo maggiorata. After modeling and theatre, Marinis t.v. career started with the Bagaglino Company and culminated with her being watched by 10 million viewers. Other sources of her great popularity are calendars including 2 photographed by David Lachapelle and a 1996 calendar photographed by Helmut Newton that sold a record 3 million copies. Marini has branched out, she now has her own lingerie and clothing lines called Seduzioni and Seduzioni Diamonds. A long term relationship with Academy award nominated producer Vittorio Cecchi Gori ended in 2006.
