Valentina Zelyaeva was born October 11th, 1982 in Moscow, Russia. She is a 5 ft. 9.5 inch (1.77m) blue eyed, blonde fashion model who first hit the catwalk the Spring/Summer of 2004. Her first season she booked 1 show, the following year she booked 55. Almost as quickly Zelyaeva she went from 2 covers of Elle in Turkey and Harpers & Queen in the UK, to covers spanning Portugal to China including Vogue, Elle, Glamour, and Harpers Bazaar. The only blemish marring Zalyaeva came because her career exploded around the time Madrid banned skinny models due to high profile deaths from anorexia nervosa. Zelyaevas petite size 4 US (EU 34) appears to have put her in jeopardy. It is the same size as Heidi Klum, but if one is wonders how that compares generationally, Elle McPherson modeled at a size 8 (EU 38) and Cindy Crawford, Paulina Porizkova and Linda Evangelista were all a size 6 (EU 36)—so models are getting thinner. Zelyaevas response never hurt her endorsements, which now include a 7 year contract Ralph Lauren, but it did sound harsh: “I think its discrimination. We are skinny, this is our work. There are lots of overweight people working in offices but I’m not going to say. . ayy. . . this girl is fat, she can’t work in an office.”
