Tyra Banks was born Tyra Lynne Banks on the 4th of December, 1973, in Inglewood, California, USA. Instead of going to university, Banks decided to move to Paris to begin modelling. In her first week she was booked for 25 shows, which is a record for a newcomer. She has since worked with Anna Sui, CoverGirl, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan, Nicole Miller, Nike, Oscar de la Renta, Swatch, Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria’s Secret, and Yves Saint Laurent. She has appeared on the cover of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, and Elle. In May 2005, Banks retired from modelling and began concentrating on her television career. She has often refused to appear in Playboy. Banks appeared in eight episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and has also appeared in Felicity, and MADtv. She has also appeared in the films Higher Learning, Life-Size, Love Stinks, Coyote Ugly, and Halloween: Resurrection. She has developed and hosts America’s Next Top Model, and also hosts The Tyra Banks Show. The Tyra Banks Show debuted in September 2005, and is now in its third season. She released a music single in 2004, Shake Ya Body, but it was a failure. She had spent six years recording music.
