Tori Amos was born Myra Ellen Amos on the 22nd of August, 1963, in Newton, North Carolina, USA. At two years old, Tori began playing the piano, and by five years old, she was composing instrumental pieces. When she was nine, Tori began adding lyrics to her musical compositions. At age five, Tori won a full scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory of Music, and was the youngest person ever to attend. However, when she was eleven, she lost the scholarship and was asked to leave. In 1977, she won a Teen Talent Contest, and became quite well known in the Washington DC area. At high school, she was elected Homecoming Queen and a string of other “titles”. At 21 years old, Tori moved to Los Angeles and gained a couple of acting gigs, even beating out Sarah Jessica Parker. In 1985, Tori was sexually assaulted after giving a lift to an acquaintance. Initially Tori released an album under the group Y Kant Tori Read, but the album was a flop. Eventually, she released Little Earthquakes, Under the Pink, Boys for Pele, From the Choirgirl Hotel, Strange Little Girls, and another four albums.
