Tilda Swinton was born Katherine Mathilda Swinton on the 5th of November, 1960, in London, England, UK. Her father is a Major-General and her mother has Australian roots. Swinton has a degree in social and political sciences. She has worked with many prestigious theatre companies, and began her film career in the mid 1980s. In 1995, Swinton became particularly notable as a live exhibition in the Serpentine Gallery in London. She was on display for an entire week, asleep or pretending to be asleep in a glass case. It was entitled The Maybe, and was the work of artist Cornelia Parker. Swinton has begun to move towards more mainstream projects, including The Deep End, Constantine, Vanilla Sky, The Beach, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. She is married to artist John Byne, and they have two children named Xavier and Honor. Swinton is soon to be seen in Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll.
