Sissy Spacek was born Mary Elizabeth Spacek on the 25th of December, 1949, in Quitman, Texas. Her origins are of Moravian, Czech, and Bohemian descent. She was nickname Sissy by her older brothers, one of who died in 1967. Instead of going to college, Sissy decided to pursue her dream of acting, and moved to New York City. Sissy initially recorded a country single under the name Rainbo. She then enrolled in the Lee Strasberg schools and landed a role in 1972 in Prime Cut. However, it was her 1973 film Badlands that had the most consequence for her. She met future husband Jack Fisk, an art director, on the set, and she gained notice in the industry. In 1976, she landed the memorable role of Carrie, and she was nominated for an Academy Award. It wasn’t until 1980 that she won the award, however, this time for her performance in Coal Miner’s Daughter, playing Loretta Lynn. That role also gained her a Grammy nomination. With husband Jack, she has had two daughters; fellow actress Schuyler Elizabeth Fisk, and another daughter Madison Fisk. They live on a horse ranch in Charlottesville, Virginia. Sissy has most recently been seen in Gray Matters, Hot Rod, Lake City, and Picture of Hollis Woods.
