Rita Wilson was born on the 26th October 1956 in Los Angeles, California. She is best known as an actress, producer and the wife of Tom Hanks since 1988. Wilson was born as Margarita Ibrahimoff to Greek immigrant parents, the family changed their surname from "Ibrahimoff" to "Wilson", which was a name of a local street. She contributed to the Moffit Cancer Center by donating "True Hearts" jewellery made of sterling silver and 14k gold. Rita is often credited with being the driving force behind Nia Vardalos's movie deal for My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which became the highest-grossing independent film of all time. She has had recurring roles in various television series, and appeared in several movies. These include Midnight Caller, Volunteers, Sleepless in Seattle, Barbarians at the Gate, The Bonfire of the Vanities, Frasier, Runaway Bride, Mixed Nuts, Now and Then, Teen Witch and Jingle All the Way. She played Susan Borman, wife of astronaut Frank Borman, in the HBO miniseries From Earth to the Moon. She has two children and has one of the longest running marriages in Hollywood, in 2008, twenty years.
