Raquel Welch was born on the 5th September 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. She is a Golden Globe winning actress who during the 1960's became a sex symbol, she is also regarded as one of the last of the great Hollywood sex symbols. She took dancing lessons as a child, and was winning beauty pageants by the time she was a teenager. Among her titles were "Miss Photogenic," "Miss La Jolla," "Miss Contour," and "Miss San Diego." In 1957, she was named "Miss Fairest of the Fair" at the San Diego County Fair. She was initially cast in bit parts in two films and in the television shows Bewitched, McHale' Navy, The Hollywood Palace and The Virginian. She auditioned for the part of "Mary Ann" on Gilligan's Island but lost out to Dawn Wells. While under contract with 20th Century Fox, she was cast in the Sci-fi hit Fantastic Voyage in 1966, this made her a star. On loan out to Hammer Studios in Britain, she starred in the remake of One Million Years B.C., now she was a sex symbol as well. The films promotional poster is legendary, Raquel is dressed in a furry animal-skin bikini, it is also the top selling movie poster of all time. She went on to make other box office bonanza movies, Bedazzled, Bandellero! and Lady in Cement. She has never posed nude even though she has been featured in seven issues of Playboy.
