Pilar Montenegro was born on May 31, 1972 in Mexico. Her birth name was Maria del Pilar Montenegro Lopez. She began acting at the rather young age of ten on the hit television series Juguemos a Cantar (Let’s Play Singing). She later joined the group Fresas con Crema (Strawberries and Cream), though she didn’t last long with them and moved on to Garibaldi when she was 17. She simultaneously developed her singing career with Garibaldi, while also working on assorted soap operas and building her fame as an actress as well. In 1996, having left Garibaldi to strike out on her own, Montenegro released her first solo album, Sol del Corazon (Sun of the Heart). In 2001, her second album came out, Desahogo (Get It Off My Chest). This album hit number two on the Latino Billboard charts and sold enough albums to hit Platinum. Her third and fourth albums, Pilar and Euroreggaeton, were released in 2004 and she also had another album in 2005, called South Beach. In addition, she has appeared in a number of television series and films, including Te Amare en Silencio (TV: I?ll Love You in Silence), Si Nos Dejan (If They Leave Us), Gotita de Amor (TV: Droplet of Love) and Volver a Empezar (TV: Starting Over Again).
