Who is Petra Nemcova?

Petra Nemcova was born June 24, 1979 in what is now the Czech Republic. She was discovered at the age of sixteen in a model search and began her modeling career at this young age. In 2003, she was featured on the cover the Swimsuit Edition of Sports Illustrated. In 2004, when the tsunami caused by the Indian Ocean earthquake swept through Thailand, she was caught in it along with her fiance, Simon Atlee. The model survived with a broken pelvis and assorted other injuries, but Atlee was swept away and drowned, his body was found nearly two months later. Due to her experiences, Nemcova started the Happy Hearts Fund to help unprivileged children. She received the Survivor Award from Glamour magazine for her impressive comeback after such tragedy. The young model also appeared in the 2006 Swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated. She moved on in her personal life as well as her professional life and began to date James Blunt, an up and coming singer, in 2006. In 2007, she starred in her own show called A Model Life with Petra Nemcova, as the hostess of the show. She has also appeared on numerous talk shows such as Live with Regis and Kathy Lee, Last Call with Carson Daly, and Jimmy Kimmel Live.
