Peri Gilpin comes from a family of television. Her father, Jim O?Brian, was a minister who later became famous for his part as a television weatherman. Her siblings, Marc and April, are also actors. Born Periwinkle Kay O?Brian on May 27, 1961 in Waco, Texas, Gilpin studied at the Dallas Theater Center, before acting at the University of Texas. She then moved to London and studied there. She got her start on 21 Jump Street, alongside Johnny Depp, in 1988, though she only had a part in one episode. Over the next few years, Gilpin proceeded to take on small roles in television series, like Matlock, Flesh and Blood, Wings, Designing Women and Cheers. In 1995, Gilpin appeared in Fight for Justice: The Nancy Conn Story, a made-for-television movie based on a true story. Other projects during the nineties included voice overs for Hercules, the animated series, The Jungle Book: Mowgli?s Story, as well as Superman, the animated series. Gilpin landed the role of Roz Doyle in Frasier in 1993, a role she would play right through till 2004 when the series ended. Since then, she has had parts in the television series Medium, Danny Phantom and Side Order of Life, as well as several films. Her movies include Women of a Certain Age and several Hellboy Animated films.
