Paulina Rubio was born in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, on June 17, 1971. She began taking lessons in dancing, singing and acting, as well as painting and jazz, by the age of five. Her singing career began with the children?s pop group, Timbiriche, when Rubio was ten. The group recorded eleven albums while Paulina was with them and they also participated in the musical Vaselina (a Spanish version of Grease). In 1988, Paulina landed the role of Paulina Montenegro in the telenovela Pasion y Poder (Passion and Power). She left Timbiriche in 1991 to start a solo career in music. Her first album was La Chica Dorada (The Golden Girl) and it has sold over a million copies worldwide. A year later, in 1993, she released 24 Kilates (24 Karats). It did extremely well and in 1995, her third album came out, El Tiempo es Oro (Time is Gold). A year later, she released yet another record, Planeta Paulina, before taking a hiatus and moving to Spain, where she vanished from the music scene for four long years. Her comeback in 1999 began with a theme song for the show she was presenting and then an album, Paulina, came out in 2000. In 2002, she broke into the English-speaking market with Don?t Say Goodby and Border Girl. Her latest album is Ananda.
