Paula Abdul is perhaps best known for her part as a judge in the hit television reality show, American Idol. She was born July 19, 1962 in San Fernando, California. She began dance lessons at the age of eight years old, showing great promise. In high school, she was on the cheerleading squad and at fifteen, she won a scholarship to a dance camp. She became head cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers. She began to do choreography for a variety of popular musicians during the eighties, including Janet Jackson. She released two dance fitness videos and then a third that was aimed at young women interested in cheerleading. In 1987, she recorded a demo and though her voice was untrained, she was popular on MTV for her dance moves and released an album called Forever Your Girl in 1988. The album didn?t show immediate success, it took over a year to get to the number one place on the Billboard charts, but once it did, it went multi-platinum and Abdul was off! She choreographed sequences for movies like Big and The Running Man and released a remix album, Shut Up and Dance. In the nineties, she released a third album, Spellbound and did a tour called Under My Spell to promote it. Her 1995 album was Head Over Heels, and in 2002, she was cast as a judge in American Idol.
