Miranda Otto was born on the 16th December 1967 in Brisbane, Australia. She is an actress. She began acting at age nineteen, and has performed in a variety of low-budget and major studio films. Her first major film appearance was in the 1986 film Emma's War, in which she played a teenager who moves to Australia's bush country during WW2. After a decade of critically acclaimed roles in Australian films, she gained Hollywood's attention after appearing in supporting roles in The Thin Red Line in 1998 and What Lies Beneath in 2000. Her breakthrough role was in 2002, when her character Eowyn was introduced to audiences in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. In late 2007, she has finished shooting the miniseries The Starter Wife and is in production for the American television series Cashmere Mafia. In 1993, Miranda co-starred with Noah Taylor in the sexually provocative comedy film The Nostradamus Kid, but shortly after she almost changed careers after failing to get nay of the next ten roles she auditioned for, she believed her acting career was over. Then she was accepted for two leading roles in 1996, but both films were box office failures and her performances were panned by the critics. Then she won the small role in The Thin Red Line, again she was panned in Australia but the US audience liked her.
