Mathilda May was born on February 8th, 1965 in Paris France with the name Karima Mathilda Haim. She is a prolific actress, sometime Punk rocker, one time dancer, and a daughter of French playwright Victor Haim. Her career could have gone in the direction of dance for she won the First Prize at the Paris Dance Conservatory when she was 16. However, an even more illustrious prize seems to have been more important in steering her career in the direction it has gone. Although May had been acting in film since 1984 her big moment occurred in 1988 when she won the Cesar Award (French Oscar equivalent) for Most Promising Actress in Le Cri du Hibou (The Cry of the Owl). Her follow up project was in a mini-series Segreto del Sahara II (Italian for Secret of the Sahara) that had a great cast starring Michael York, Ben Kingsley, and Andie MacDowell. The show was released in Italy, the U.S., Germany, and Spain but its plot was mediocre fare about an archaeologist who finds a parchment that leads to a great discovery about the secret of . . . Loudspeaker Mountain. May has yet to achieve great success outside France and Europe, but she does remain a regular presence in French film and television. The actress is 3 times divorced, and has 2 children.
