Marisa Tomei was born December 4th, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York. In 1992 she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in My Cousin Vinny. Her first television role was in the long running soap opera As the World Turns as Marcy Thompson, but the role that brought her to a wide public audience was as aspiring speech therapist Maggie Lauten on the Cosby Show spinoff, A Different World from 1987-1988. Tomei brought some cultural diversity to the fictional historically black college and therefore was a memorable part of the cast. The high water mark of Tomeis career was clearly her Oscar win across Joe Pesci and Ralph Maccio in a movie about an unsuccessful, inexperienced New York lawyer (Pesci) who travels with his wisecracking Italian American Princess girlfriend (Tomei) to a small southern town to try to save his younger cousin (Maccio) and his cousins friend from a case of mistaken identity that has them up for murder charges. Tomei was funny as the woman who saves the day with her surprising car mechanical knowledge that proves the boys were not driving the getaway car. Since then, Tomeis performed in film and television and even played the title role in Oscar Wildes Salome with Al Pacino and Diane West on Broadway. She also had a cameo on a classic episode of Seinfeld (1996) as Georges dream date, the talented and beautiful Oscar Winner: Marisa Tomei.
