Marie Gillain was born on June 18th, 1975 in Liege, Belgium. In her first movie, My Father the Hero (1991), Gillain played the daughter of Frances biggest star, Gerard Depardieu. The movie was a light comedic hit about a divorced father on vacation with a teenaged daughter who begins using clever ploys to get some distance from him. Gillain received a Cesar nomination (French Oscar equivalent) for Most Promising Actress, and she even performed on the movies soundtrack. Her next film was another starring role in Marie (1994), a maudlin tearjerker about a pregnant young girl in trouble helping an orphan. It was critically acclaimed enough to win 5 continental European Film awards inluding 2 for Gillain as Best Actress. Gillains success on film has been mirrored in television and theatre where she debuted in the lead role of a touring production of the Diary of Anne Frank in 1995. Gillain freshness and luminosity eventually got her notice by cosmetics giant Lancome who put her under contract in 1998. Fans will enjoy the fact that not only did Gillain get a standard education at Saint-Louis College in Liege, but she also went to a Belgian Clown College. There she studied singing, dancing, dramatic acting, and what else? Tumbling. Gillain has one child, a girl named Dune.
