Maria Sharapova is a Russian tennis star born on April 19th, 1987 and raised from 7 onward in the U.S. although she maintains Russian citizenship. Sharapova has 2 career Grand Slams including winning Wimbledon in 2004 and being the U.S. Open Womens Champion of 2006. She therefore lived up to what has become her first of many athletic awards starting with the Womens Tennis Associations Newcomer of the Year Award of 2003, and their Player of the Year in 2004.
