Madeleine Stowe was born August 18th, 1958 in Eagle Rock, California. Stowes known as an American actress but at age 10 she was a piano pupil of Sergei Tarnovski. Tarnovski taught two of the greatest piano virtuosos of the previous century including Vladimir Horowitz when he was just around Madeleines age from 11-16 during the years of 1914-1919 before the Russian Revolution caused teacher Tarnovski to emigrate to the U.S. So Stowes training with this master showed her promise as a pianist, but death and sickness interrupted her early life. Stowes father was sick from MS, and eight years after the beginning of her training with Tarnovski, he died when she was 18 (although hardly unexpected, as the master was 96). Nonetheless, heartbroken Stowe turned to acting and immediately gained work. Her first small parts were in episodes of shows like Baretta starring future accused wife murderer, Robert Blake. Stowes short appearance on a widely panned show loosely based on Last of the Mohicans called Deerslayer (1978) was overdubbed by actress Anne Lockehart. All was not lost, however, for in 1992 Stowe got the lead role in the Oscar winning film adaptation of Last of the Mohicans opposite Daniel Day-Louis. Her other highest profile roles have been in Robert Altmans Short Cuts (1993) and Twelve Monkeys (1995).
