Lisa Bonet was born on November 16th, 1967 in San Francisco, California. The half African American, half Jewish Bonet came to national attention in the U.S. by appearing as one of Bill Cosbys children, Denise Huxtable, on The Cosby Show. The spinoff A Different Word followed Denise to fictional co-ed historically black college, Hillman, but the show later had to revolve around the other characters due to Bonets departure. Bill Cosby has been an outspoken advocate for black education and cultural responsibility, and known for exerting a positive influence on the younger actors in his casts. Therefore, the disappointment Cosby felt became a matter of public record when Bonets first film role was in 1987s Angelheart, originally given an X rating for her scorching sex scene with co-star Mickey Rourke. Even so, the movies sex scene was cut enough to get an R rating and Bonet received that years Young Artists Award for Best Young Female Superstar. Audiences were also introduced to how beautiful she had become as an adult. Bonets early success was to be thwarted by later choices. She eloped with then barely known Lenny Kravitz and had a five year, dramatic marriage that led to one child and much time in the tabloids. Since her Cosby show appearances shes worked steadily but at a much lower profile.
