Leisha Hailey was born July 11th, 1971 in Okinawa, Japan to American parents, and raised in Nebraska. The actress and musician is especially active in the gay and lesbian artistic community where she is remarkable for being open about her sexuality for her entire career, as well as taking part in the most famous example of the opposite career path. Hailey was chosen to be a background character in the episode in which Ellen DeGeneres had the first onscreen coming out in U.S. history. Haileys accomplishments inlcude roles in television, independent film, and being one half of a pop duo called the Murmurs (later renamed Gush) who toured with the all female music festival, Lilith Fair, in the late 90s. She is currently a singer and guitarist in the band Uh Huh Her, while also portraying a lead character on the Showtime series The L Word since 2004. Hailey plays the bisexual journalist Alice Pieszecki who is obsessed with The Chart -- a Six Degrees of Separation style record of all the sexual dalliances she can chronicle and how they link to her so that she can prove that ultimately, everyone is sleeping with everyone else. Her real life Chart includes fellow musician k.d. lang (for whom she is supposed to be the muse behind langs 2000 album Invincible Summer), and her current partner fashion designer Nina Garduno.
