Laurel Holloman was born on the 23rd May 1971 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA. She is an actress best known for her role as Justine on Angel and as Tina on The L Word. She attended the University of North Carolina and it was here that she started acting in numerous college theatre productions. After her first year of college, she moved to Chicago to work with the Piven Theatre Workshop. She studied with John Lynn in Los Angles; was cast in David Orr's independent feature Blossom Time. She moved to New York City in early 1994 and set her eye on the theatre and enjoyed success on the stage including roles in Tenessee Williams' Glass Menagerie. In 1995, she kicked off a successful film career with her breakout role as baby butch Randy Dean in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love for which she received critical acclaim and became an icon for many lesbians. Nearly 10 years later, she took over the small screen in Showtime's lesbian drama, The L Word playing Tina Kennard. She has won praise from fans and critics alike for her performance as the complex and misunderstood Tina Kennard. Her peers recognized her for her brilliant performance in series one and honoured her with a Golden Satellite Award in 2005.s. She remains the only actress on The L Word to be recognized for her work.
