Kim Basinger was born Kimila Ann Basinger on the 8th December 1953 in Athens, Georgia, USA. She is an Academy Award winning actress and former fashion model. Her pet hatred is that people pronounce her surname wrong, it in bay-sing-er not bass-in-jer. When Kim was sixteen years old, she started her modelling career by winning the Athens Junior Miss contest. She followed that up by winning the title “Junior Miss Georgia”. She then headed to New York City to compete in the national Junior Miss pageant. It was there that Kim was approached by Ford Modelling Agency but she turned them down initially. They had offered the young beauty queen a modelling contract but she wanted to concentrate on singing and acting, she reconsidered and headed back to New York to become a Ford model. Her first star turn was a made-for-TV movie, "Katie: Portrait of a Centerfold" (1978) in which she played a small town girl who goes to Hollywood to become an actress, and winds up becoming a famous centerfold for a men's magazine. She was a James Bond girl in Never Say Never Again in 1983, where she starred opposite Sean Connery. She did a famous pictorial for Playboy magazine in 1983, which Kim has said led to good opportunities. Her most prominent appearances include, Batman (1989) and L.A. Confidential (1997) for which she received an Oscar, as well as the Golden Globe and SAG Award.
