Kelly Mcgillis was born on the 9th July 1957 in Newport Beach, California, USA. She is an actress and businesswoman. Her most notable movies include Witness in 1985 (for which she received a Golden Globe nomination), which helped her get her most known role in Top Gun in 1986, opposite Tom Cruise, and The Accused in 1988. She was originally approached to play the part of the rape victim in The Accused but turned it down because she had been raped herself (and her roommate at the time) in 1982 and thought it was too close to her own ordeal. The role was taken by Jodie Foster who won an Oscar for it. Kelly decided to take the role of the lawyer who supports Foster's character in the movie. Since turning down the role her career has been spasmodic at best in the movies, she has only been in five since The Accused. Now she has turned her attention to the theatre and television. In 2004 she appeared in the stage paly The Graduate as Mrs. Robinson, touring the US. In 2007 she is reportedly joined the cast of The L Word's fifth season. She is currently divorced and has three children. She also owns and runs a restaurant in Key West, Florida.
