Who is Kelly Hu?

Kelly Hu was born on the 13th February 1968 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is an actress and former fashion model who held the Miss Teen USA Title in 1985. Kelly has held a lifelong interest in singing and dancing and has also been interested in martial arts since childhood. Her cousin was a successful model in Japan so she decided to follow her example. To gain publicity, Kelly won the Miss Hawaii Teen USA 1985 title, she almost didn't compete in the Miss Teen USA event because her mother told her America was not ready for an Asian as such a prominent role model. However, Kelly became the first Asian American to win the title. Ironically enough, she discovered after winning that she was prohibited from appearing in non-contest related activities for the year of her reign. She then worked in Japan and Italy as a model and in television commercials. She moved to LA in 1987 and began her acting career, with a guest-starring role on the sitcom Growing Pains. Then followed with appearances on a lot of hit TV shows. Her first movie role in Friday the 13th Part Vlll: Jason Takes Manhatten. In 1993 she also won the title of Miss Hawaii USA and was a finalist at the 1993 Miss USA pageant held in Wichita, Kansas.
