Katherine Moennig was born on the 29th December 1977 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. She is an actress who is best known for her role a Shane McCutcheon on the television series The L Word. Although there has been much speculation surrounding her sexual orientation due to the on-screen lesbian and transgender roles she has taken, in a 2000 interview with Rebecca Traister of the New York Observer she said she was heterosexual, one of her previous female co-stars on hearing that said, "and I'm a chimp or a chump". So far she has only been in five movies and two television series, she has recently been appearing in the off Broadway production Guardians, by Peter Morris. In it, she plays "American Girl" - a young US Army soldier from West Virginia who becomes a scapegoat in a scandal involving abuse at an Iraqi prison. She seems destined to paly roles that have homosexual undertones unless she can break the mould soon. Even in her other TV series she was cast as the girl who dresses as a boy to get into a fraternity. She has been announced as a cast member of the upcoming production Dead Girls Diary but no details of her part have been revealed.
