She is known for her appearances in Playboy magazine as Playmate of the Month in December 1997 and as the 1998 Playmate of the Year. Karen began her career as a promotional model and a swimsuit model. Post her appearances in Playboy, she has extended her career into a wide variety of mainstream media, including print, television, and movies, with mixed success. She has migrated into fitness modelling and is pursuing hosting duties on TV. She has also inspired the creation of a fantasy art statuette and a doll. In 2001, the readers of Playboy voted her the second Sexiest Playmate of the 1990's, Pamela Anderson was the number one. Since her Playmate days, she has maintained a largely private life. In 2007, the paparazzi reportedly spotted her dating actor Bruce Willis. In 2001, she co-starred in The Arena, direct-to-video movie. The entire production was shot in Russia. It was her feature film debut in which she played a female gladiator in Ancient Rome. The movie, initially titled Gladiatrix was deemed to be a knockoff of Gladiator but has become a cult movie.
