Hope Davis is a New Jersey girl, born March 23, 1964 in Englewood, NJ. In college, she studied cognitive science, a far cry from drama class, but her childhood tendencies returned to guide her. When small, Davis was inspired by her librarian mother to write and create plays for friends and family, along with Mira Sorvino, in her backyard. Early on, she found parts in Home Alone and Flatliners, among others, but nothing big. After college, she landed a couple of roles in indie films, The Daytrippers in 1995 and Next Stop Wonderland in 1998. Next, she went on to act in Arlington Road and About Schmidt, both Hollywood movies. These two films opened the way for her to continue her acting career in more mainstream movies and Davis continued on to take parts in films such as The Secret Lives of Dentists, The Weather Man, Proof, Duma, Infamous and Charlie Bartlett, just to name a few. She won New York Film Critics Circle award and was also nominated for a Golden Globe for her comedic performance in Harvey Pekar?s American Splendor. She also had a role in the television series Six Degrees in 2006. Apart from her work in movies and on television, Davis has acted on the stage as well, taking the lead in Spinning into Butter in 2000.
