Hilary Swank, born July 30th, 1974, in Lincoln, Nebraska, has become somewhat of a household name. She started her career early, on the stage of her local elementary school, her first production was The Jungle Book. At age 13, her mother took her to California to pursue the acting dream, after her parents divorced. Hilary and her mother lived out of a car for a while, but Hilary landed bit parts in Evening Shade and Growing Pains, enabling her to pay rent. She also took roles in Camp Wilder and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She played a single mother in Beverly Hills 90210, in 1997, but was removed from the storyline after just 16 episodes. After this, she auditioned for and got the role of Brandon Teena in Boys Don?t Cry, a film that would skyrocket her to fame and win her a Golden Globe and an Oscar, though she was only paid $3,000 for her performance. Both awards were hers again in 2004, after she appeared in Million Dollar Baby. Since then, she has appeared in numerous films including Iron Jawed Angels, The Black Dahlia, The Reaping and P.S., I Love You, among others. Two more films are in post-production at the moment, Iron Man and Laws of Motion, as well as another, The Labyrinth, which is set to be released in 2008.
