Gretchen Mol was born in Connecticut, in a small town called Deep Rivers, November 8, 1972. Living so near New York City, she studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy as well as William Esper Studio, both of which helped her move toward an acting career. She started out modelling, but soon broke into television with a Coke commercial. After that, rather than continue on with television ads, Mol began to act in the theatre, taking on roles in plays like Bus Stop and No Exit. In 1996, she landed her first part in a film with Girl 6, directed by Spike Lee. She also acted in Donnie Brasco, a 1997 mob flick and a year later appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair, touted as the next It Girl for Hollywood. However, Mol?s career slid back to theatre and for the following seven years, she was content to act in Broadway shows like Chicago, occasionally taking a small part in movies like Rounders and Celebrity both of which, incidentally, involved working with her husband?s ex-wife. In 2005, Gretchen Mol appeared in the film The Notorious Betty Page, turning in her blonde locks for a head of dark hair and earned high praise from the critics for her actuation. She went on to marry director Tim and took on the film The Ten, in 2007.
