Gloria Estefan was born Gloria Maria Fajardo on the 1st September 1957 in Havana, Cuba. She is a three-time Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter. Her single, "Don't Wanna Lose You" in 1989 was a platinum hit in the US. It also made number one on the Billboard Hot 100. She has sold over ninety million albums worldwide and is commonly called the "Queen of Latin Pop". Her career began when after singing at a wedding she was asked to join the Miami based band that would morph into the Miami Sound Machine, with her as lead vocalist. Once she was established in front of the band it took off, first having Latin hits in Spanish then breaking through in 1984, with the song Dr. Beat from the Innocence Eyes album, this was a world wide success and they were now a mainstream group. The group produced Let It Loose, their first world wide multi platinum album. In 1988 the group changed its name to Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, a year later it was just Gloria Estefan. They repackaged Let It Loose as Anything For You and again it went to the top around the world, confirming her super star status. Twenty-eight albums later she is still as popular as ever with most releases becoming instant number ones.
