Girls Aloud are a British all girl group created by the ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. They were formed along with a boy band at the same time, the object of the show was for the two groups to compete for the number one single for the Christmas Charts in 2002. Girls Aloud was the girl group, the boys group was One True Voice and not only lost the competition but failed to last a year, whereas Girls Aloud have gone from strength to strength. The group consists of five members, Cheryl Cole, (nee Tweedy) Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh. It is one of the most successful British pop groups ever with a record-breaking sixteen consecutive Top 10 singles (including three number ones), four platinum albums (including a number one), and record sales in excess of 4.2 million in the UK. They have won a TMF Award, and have been nominated for a BRIT Award. The music of Girls Aloud ranges from the distinctly 1980's sound to the sixties sound and onto the more futuristic sounds. The group holds the record for the shortest time between forming and reaching number one in the charts. They are listed twice in the Guinness World Records lists, once for the Most Successful Reality TV Group in the 2007 edition, and then in the 2008 edition as the Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group. They have released five albums, all of them rocket up the album charts as soon as they were released.
