Gabriela Beatriz Sabatini, born May 16th 1970 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a retired professional tennis player and was ranked as high as third in the world in 1991. Her career highlight would have been winning the US Open in 1990 but she also won a Wimbledon doubles title in 1988 and a Sliver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games. As a junior she won six major titles including the French Open Girls Singles, in 1984 she was ranked number one junior player. As a senior she had an outstanding record of twenty-seven singles titles and twelve doubles titles in her career. Reaching three of the grand slam finals in her career but only winning the one, each time she ran into her doubles partner in the semis or the final, only once did she beat Steffi Graf and that was her US Open win. It was also Steffi Graf who prevented her from reaching the number one spot in 1991, beating her in a semi final which meant Graf kept the number one ranking and her opponent in the final, Monica Seles took the number two spot. Since retiring in 1996 she has launched a new career in perfumes, she has also had a pink rose named in her honour. Her career winnings were over $8.5 million and on July 15th 2005 she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
