Franka Potente was born in Munster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany on the 22nd July 1974. Educated in Germany until her last year of High School she spent that year as an exchange student in Humble, Taxas, USA. On returning to Germany she enrolled in the Otto Falkenberg School of Performing Arts in Munich. Taking acting jobs outside of school hours she appeared in the student film "Aufbruch" in 1995. This film was to launch her career, she was "spotted" by a casting agent. Her next film was "Nach Funf im Urwald" (english title, "It’s a Jungle Out There") in 1995, for her role she received the Bavarian Film Prize for Young Talent in 1995. She then moved to New York to complete a years study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Manhatten. Returning to Germany she was in a couple of "made for television" movies until 1998 when she was offered the lead in "Run Lola Run". This film won huge accolades for all involved but especially for Franka. She made two more German films before being offered the role opposite Johnny Depp in "Blow" in 2001. Shortly after this film was released she was asked to play the lead opposite Matt Damon in "The Bourne Identity", a role she repeated in "The Bourne Supremacy".
