Fiona Apple whose full name is Fiona Apple McFee Maggert was born in New York City on September 13, 1977. She is a multi award winning singer/songwriter contracted to the Sony label, so far she has won two MTV music awards including Best New Artist in 1997 and a Grammy from a total of twelve nominations. She has released three albums, the first, "Tidal (1996)" sold 2.7 million copies and went four times platinum. The second, "When The Pawn (1999)", sold one million copies and also went platinum. The third was "Extraordinary Machine (2005)" and sold nearly half a million copies. While her popularity and ability to sell records has fallen away (based on sales figures) in the US market she has gained popularity in overseas markets, especially in Australia and Europe where her third album sold three times more than the first. She is in the studio at the moment working on her fourth album. Although linked romantically with magician David Blaine and film director Paul Anderson, she has never married and has no children. At the age of twelve Fiona was raped in her home and this experience is reflected in her work, especially in songs like "Sullen Girl" and "The Child is Gone".
