Emma Thompson was born on the 15th of April, 1959, in London, England, United Kingdom. Her father was an actor and her mother was an actress. Her sister, Sophie, is also an actress. Emma spent much of her time in Scotland as a child. She first found fame with a leading role in the West End revival of Me and My Girl. She then appeared in the drama Fortunes of War. Her first film role was in The Tall Guy in 1989. She won an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in 1992’s Howards End. In 1996, she won her second Oscar for her screenplay adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. Her acting also gained her an Oscar nomination that year. Emma actually once wrote and starred in her own sketch show entitled Thompson, but it was a flop. She has more recently appeared in the Harry Potter films and in the rom-com Love Actually. She also appeared in the delightful Stranger than Fiction. She was once romantically linked with Hugh Laurie. She married Kenneth Branagh in 1989 and divorced in 1995. In 2003, she married Greg Wise. They already had a daughter back in 1999 named Gaia Romilly.
