Emily Mortimer was born on the 1st of December in 1971 in London, England. The English actress father is Sir John Clifford Mortimer who was the English barrister famous for defending the Sex Pistols in their 1977 obscenity trial for use of the word bollocks (i.e. testicles, or nonsense, depending on who you ask) in their album title Never Mind the Bollocks. Sir Mortimer’s equally well known for his subsequent drastic career turn making him a prolific writer of works including the iconic English t.v. series, Rumpole of the Bailey. Emily Mortimer has followed in her fathers footsteps both in attending the University of Oxford, and ultimately going into a successful show business career. Like her father she’s a writer including a credit for her film adaptation of Lorna Sages novel Bad Blood. As an actress her career began performing in plays while attending Oxfords Lincoln College. This led to t.v. roles starting with 1995s Sharpes Sword and a miniseries called The Glass Virgin. Film work has since been steady as well starting on a stellar note with a role in the Oscar Winning 1996 film The Ghost and the Darkness, and recently she’s appeared alongside Steve Martins bumbling detective in the 2006 remake of The Pink Panther.
