Ellen Degeneres was born the 26th, 1958 in Metairie, Louisiana. Ellen is one of the most prominent comedians in the U.S. She hosts her own syndicated daily talk show that appears throughout the U.S. and world. The shows won 15 Emmys in 3 years, and shes hosted the event. Hosting the Oscars in 2007 was the fulfilment of a lifelong dream, as she gushed while onstage, and the performance earned nearly universal critical praise. Fans know Degeneres went through a life changing, painful experience in the 1990s when she chose to use her sitcom Ellen to reveal she was a lesbian. The show featured Oprah Winfrey as her therapist, received high ratings and was considered enormously funny. But afterwards the writers and skittish network executives seemed reluctant to find a way to see how Ellen would live the life she was proclaiming, and the show was cancelled. The following career dry spell and romantic embarrassment of having partner Anne Heche decide she was not a lesbian after all (she even claimed an alien abduction), left most believing Degeneres was gone from the stage for good. Her new talk show format and lower profile on gay issues has revitalized Degeneres’ career and surprisingly, her love life: her partner is not as public but nearly everyone knows its gorgeous actress Portia de Rossi who does hair commercials featuring her extraordinary golden mane.
