Catherine Elise Blanchett was born on May 14th, 1969 in Ivanhoe, Australia. Catherine Blanchett, better known as Cate, is a Golden Globe Award winning actress, and an Academy Award winning actress. She has won many other awards like two BAFTAs and two SAG awards. She is among an elite few who have won all four esteemed awards in acting. She became famous through the 1998 film Elizabeth, directed by Shekar Kapur, in which she essayed the role of Elizabeth I of England with class and ease. She has also acted in the famous movie Lord of the Rings tri-series as High elf queen Galadriel. Her list of achievements does not end here. She has also acted in the movie Aviator as Katherine Hepburn and won the Best Supporting Actors Award for the same at the Academy Awards. Her parents were ordinary people and were not connected to the entertainment industry. Her mother was an Australian teacher by the name of June and her father, Robert Blanchett, was a United States Navy Petty Officer who was born in Texas, USA. Her parents met when her father was posted at Melbourne, who later changed his profession and became an advertising executive. The sad part is Cate lost her father at the age of 10 to a heart attack. She had an older brother by the name of Bob and a younger sister by the name of Genevieve.
