Carla Gugino was born on the 29th of August, 1971, in Sarasota, Florida. Her father is Irish-Italian and her mother is of English origins. They moved to Paradise in California when she was four years old. She graduated as valedictorian of her class. At fifteen, she moved to New York after being approached by a modelling agency, unusual due her small stature of 165 centimetres, or 5 feet four inches, tall. Her height did become an issue, and her family encouraged her to try acting instead. She appeared in Who’s the Boss in 1988, Saved by the Bell in 1989, and in 1989 she landed a role in Falcon Crest as Sydney St. James. She left in 1990, subsequently appearing in The Wonder Years, Doogie Howser, M.D., Quantum Leap, and then she moved into art house films. In 1996, she landed a role on Spin City, and stayed until 1999. Then she gained a role on Chicago Hope and stayed with the series until 2000. She has since appeared in the Spy Kids movies, The One with Jet Li, and she gained the title role in the series Karen Sisco from 2003 to 2004. In 2005 she gained the superb role of Lucille in the film Sin City. She also appeared in Night at the Museum in 2006. She was Dr. Molly Anne Caffrey in 2005 to 2006 in the series Threshold. She also had a recurring role on Entourage as Amanda. She has most recently been seen in American Gangster, Our Lady of Victory, and Righteous Kill.
