Calista Flockhart was born Calista Kay Flockhart on the 11th of November, 1964, in Freeport, Illinois. She is best known for playing Ally McBeal in the television series of the same name from 1997 to 2002. The name Calista is from the word Kallista, which in Greek means most beautiful. Calista’s father had to move often for his job as an executive, and the family travelled with him. Calista went to The Mason Gross School of the Arts in Rutgers University. She met Jane Krakowski, who she would work with on Ally McBeal. In 1989, Calista debuted in Guiding Light as a babysitter. Her first decent role was in Quiz Show, as Barnard Girl in 1994. She continued to work the stage, however, and in 1995 she starred in Jane Doe. In 1997, David Kelley requested that she audition for the role of Ally McBeal. Throughout the series, she maintained that she didn’t have an eating disorder, but she has since admitted that she had a problem, was working out too much and not eating enough. Calista auditioned for Teri Hatcher’s role, Susan Mayer, on Desperate Housewives. She now appears as Kitty Walker on Brothers & Sisters. She adopted a baby boy in 2001, and has been dating Harrison Ford since 2002.
