Annika Sorenstam was born on the 9th of October, 1970, near Stockholm, Sweden. She is one of the most successful professional female golfers in all of history. Annika holds the record for the highest number of Player of the Year Awards – eight! She has also won six Vare Trophies. In 2003, Annika made history by playing with the boys. She competed in the Men’s PGA Tour. She has 86 professional wins – 69 on the LPGA Tour, 16 other individual wins, and one two-woman team win. She has ten major championship wins from 1995 to 2005. As a child, Annika played tennis competitively, was an accomplished skier, and she played football. However, when she was twelve, she turned her hand to golf. She shared her golf clubs with her sister, who is also a professional golf player now. Annika was shy as a child, and used to deliberately miss the final putt, until her coaches put an end to it with both the winner and the runner up having to give a speech. She had her first professional win in 1994 in Australia on the ALPG Tour. Annika married David Esch on the 4th of January, 1997. She filed for divorce in 2005. Annika is a US ambassador for the Make A Wish Foundation.
