Annette Bening was born Annette Carol Bening on the 29th of May, 1958, in Topeka, Kansas. Annette began acting when she was at school, and studying drama at Patrick Henry High School. She completed a degree in theatre arts at the San Francisco State University, joined the acting company at the American Conservatory Theatre, and continued to study acting as part of the Advanced Theatre Training Program. Annette moved to New York City, where she debuted in an off Broadway production of Coastal Disturbances in 1987. She worked in television and film as well as on the stage throughout the late 1980s. She found critical acclaim with her role in The Grifters in 1990, including a nomination for an Academy Award. She is probably best known, however, as Carolyn Burnham in 1999’s American Beauty, opposite Kevin Spacey and Joaquin Phoenix. Annette hosted Saturday Night Live in December 2006, with guests Gwen Stefani and Akon. Back in 1986, Annette separated from her husband J. Steven White. In 1991, Annette met Warren Beatty on the set of Bugsy. They married in 1992, and have had four children from 1992 to 2000.
