Anne Hathaway was born Anne Jacqueline Hathaway on the 12th of November, 1982, in Brooklyn, New Jersey. Anne’s mother was an actress who inspired Anne to follow in her own footsteps. Anne is of mostly Irish and French origins. Anne was raised as a strict Catholic, and wanted to be a nun when she was younger. Thankfully, she changed her mind. Anne was the first teenager to join the Barrow Group Theatre Company’s acting program. Anne says she prefers the stage to film roles. Anne is also an accomplished soprano singer. She was cast in the 1999 television series Get Real, but the series was cancelled. She then gained her first major film role in 2001 in The Other Side of Heaven. She then auditioned for the role of Mia in The Princess Diaries, and gained the part in 2001. Anne went on to do Nicholas Nickleby, Northwest Herald, Deseret News, and Ella Enchanted. Anne gained the lead role as Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, but had to turn it down due to a conflicting Disney contract for The Princess Diaries 2. Anne began to move away from her squeaky clean kids roles, preferring to go nude in Havoc in 2005. She also appeared in Brokeback Mountain. In 2006, The Devil Wears Prada was Anne’s smash hit. She was cast in Knocked Up, but dropped out as she didn’t want to be in a film showing a woman truly giving birth, as it wasn’t necessary to the story.
