Angelina Jolie was born Angelina Jolie Voight on the 4th of June, 1975, in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. Marcheline died of cancer in 2007. Angelina has been famously estranged from her father, though they did unsuccessfully attempt a reconciliation. Angelina officially dropped the Voight from her name in 2002, and that same year her father publicly claimed she had serious emotional problems. Angelina first worked as a fashion model from age fourteen. She started theatre acting at age sixteen, and she appeared in five of her brother’s student films. Her first professional role came in 1993 in Cyborg 2. In 1995, her first Hollywood role was in Hackers. In 1997, she finally started receiving recognition for her work, earning a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination for George Wallace. In 1998, she achieved the same accolades for Gia. In 1999, Angelina received a third Golden Globe, a second SAG Award, and her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Girl, Interrupted. She has since had a string of blockbuster but forgettable films. In 2007, she directed the documentary A Place in Time. She is now expanding her family with her other half, Brad Pitt.
