Who is Anastacia?

Anastacia was born Anastacia Lyn Newkirk on the 17th of September, 1973, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Anastacia works primarily as a pop/rock singer and songwriter. She comes from a showbiz family, with her father a club singer and her mother a Broadway musical theatre actress. When Anastacia was a teenager, her family moved to New York where she enrolled in the Professional Children's School in Manhattan. Anastacia was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, an intestinal disease, when she was thirteen. Despite this, she took dance classes. In 1999, Anastacia appeared on the MTV talent show, The Cut. She only finished in second place, but she still caught the attention of the host Lisa Lopes of TLC fame, and she scored a deal with Epic Records. Anastacia has received success in Europe, Asia, and Australia, but hasn’t broken the US with quite the same success. In January 2003, Anastacia decided to have her breasts reduced due to back strain, but during routine tests she discovered she had breast surgery. She underwent surgery and radiotherapy, and used the experience to inspire her third album. Anastacia was in a relationship for six years with Shawn Woods, but it was rumoured she found him in bed with another woman. In April 2007, Anastacia married her bodyguard Wayne Newton.
