Ana Barbara was born Altagracia Ugalde Motta on the 10th of January, 1971, in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Ana’s older sister, Viviana Ugalde was a famous singer when she was a teenager. The much younger Ana attended her sister’s concerts, idolising her, and wishing to be a singer herself. In 1988, Ana was crowned Miss San Luis Potosi. She represented her state in the Miss Mexico contest, but she did not win. Ana was awaiting her big break… it finally came in 1993 when she was named the Ambassador of Ranchera Music. She also earned the Beautiful Face de El Heraldo award in that same year. Finally, Ana signed with Televisa’s music representation Fonovisa. Ana released her first CD, self entitled. Shake Me, Sacudeme, became a major hit in her home country. In 1995, the singer Selena died. Ana released her self entitled CD to Hispanic listeners in the United States, dedicating it to Selena. Ana also added a song titled Selena to the CD for its American release. Ana was linked with Julio Sabala, and rumours of a wedding abounded. However, they eventually split. Ana was also linked with millionaire Jorge Kahwagi in 2005. Ana then received criticism when she dated Jose Maria Fernandez, only weeks after his wife had passed away. Ana gave birth to Emiliano in 2000. Ana was awarded a Latin Grammy in 2005.
