Amy Lee was born Amy Lynn Lee on the 13th of December, 1981, in Riverside, California. Amy has one brother and two sisters. She had a third sister that died from a mystery illness, and many of Amy’s songs reference this event in her life. Amy took classical piano lessons for nine years. Amy co founded the band Evanescence with Ben Moody, who she met at a youth camp. They began playing acoustic sets at bookstores and coffee shops. They recorded two EPs in 1998 and 1999. In 2000, they recorded the longer EP Origin. It contains three songs from their debut album Fallen. In October 2003, Ben Moody left the band. Amy was sued for breach of contract by her former manager Dennis Rider. Amy countersued, alleging a range of injustices including physically abusing women. Amy married long-time friend Josh Hartzler on May the 6th, 2007. Her Goth look is unmistakable, and in 2006, Blender listed Amy as one of the hottest women in rock. She had excellent company in the list from Joan Jett, Courtney Love, and Liz Phair. Amy is the American Chairperson for Out of Shadows, an international foundation educating people about epilepsy. Amy’s brother has epilepsy.
